Direct customer testing in commercial aviation is scheduled to begin during 2022 and this technology will be extended to a range of sector-specific mobility applications for Inmarsat, government customers and the IoT over the coming years.

Inmarsat is launching two new satellites to upgrade the ELERA network. The I-6 satellites, the first of which is scheduled to be launched in late 2021, are the largest and most sophisticated commercial communications satellites ever built.

The L-band capacity on each I-6 satellite will be much larger than the Inmarsat 4th band spacecraft and, among other improvements, they will provide 50% more beam capacity; means that much more data can be transferred to the same geographical area, in addition to the unlimited flexibility of beam tracking.
